Hard to believe it’s been over 12 years since the launch of Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Inside|Out program in 2010.

Part of the DIA’s 125th-anniversary celebration, the Inside|Out program has become an annual community art outreach program in Michigan.

Reproductions of high-quality paintings from the DIA are installed outside in communities throughout Michigan from spring to fall for community members to enjoy.

Photo of the Week: All Under Heaven

Shoppers quickly walk by the art installation, barely giving it a glance, as they head toward the doors of the nearby arts and crafts supply store.

Not me.

I stopped for several minutes to admire the sculpture and look about for the placard describing the work and artist.

Photo of the Week: Red-Shouldered Shield Bug

You wouldn’t think you’d see many insects in winter around Detroit.

Given the cold, below freezing, temperatures, most insects have hunkered down for the winter months.

But you can’t miss the lime green insect with long multi-colored antennae and red shoulders on the edge of the Belle Isle Nature Center parking lot.

Part of the Overlooked outdoor macro photography installation at Belle Isle State Park in Detroit, the photograph is one of many massive insect photographs by photographer Joseph Ferraro.
