When I was birding at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge in Trenton, Michigan this weekend, I discovered they were participating in this year’s Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Inside|Out program.

Launched in 2010, the program aims to bring art reproductions to the metro Detroit community, connecting people and showing that art is for everyone.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen one of our nearby communities partnering with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) on their Inside|Art program of artwork reproductions.

When I saw the artwork displayed at Wilcox Lake Recreation Area in Plymouth, Michigan, I thought the city of Plymouth was one of the Inside|Out partner communities for 2026.

Hard to believe it’s been over 12 years since the launch of Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Inside|Out program in 2010.

Part of the DIA’s 125th-anniversary celebration, the Inside|Out program has become an annual community art outreach program in Michigan.

Reproductions of high-quality paintings from the DIA are installed outside in communities throughout Michigan from spring to fall for community members to enjoy.
