Attending Canton Township’s 25th anniversary memorial service for September 11, 2001, the clear blue skies and bright sunshine reminded me of the day 25 years ago when the United States was attacked by terrorists.

Photo of the Week: The Joyful Dancer

A graceful silver-colored sculpture of a dancer standing on one leg with their arms gracefully stretched overhead in front of the red-brick building and glass doors of the theater.

As theater goers hurry on their way to get to their seat at Canton Township’s Village Theater at Cherry Hill, they might overlook the graceful metal sculpture just west of the outdoor entrance.

Donated in 2007 by the R. Gene and Nancy D Richter Foundation, The Joyful Dancer is a welded stainless steel work by Ohio-based sculptor Jim (also known as James) Havens.

For folks in Canton Township, Havens’ work may look familiar.

Bright red circular see-through metallic outdoor sculpture depicts the sun with triangular rays streaming from it.

Created by Toledo, Ohio sculptor Pamela Reithmeier, Helios is one of 11 sculptures in the 17th Annual Sculpture Exhibit on Ford Road in Canton, Michigan.
