If you’ve been using WordPress for a while on your website, it’s likely you’ve run into some kind of issue.

Whether it’s a

  • Design problem
  • Configuration setting
  • Issue with a plugin or theme

it can be time-consuming to track down what’s causing the problem.

I can attest to that.

Working with WordPress since 2006, I’ve had plenty of troublesome WordPress issues to resolve for my clients as well as myself.

Which was why I was interested in Abby Buzon’s Uh oh: Troubleshooting Common Problems in WordPress presentation at WordCamp Kent 2020.

Buzon shared helpful tips and actionable steps to take when you encounter problems on your WordPress site.

Here are my notes. Continue reading Takeaways from Uh-oh: Troubleshooting Common Problems in WordPress

Fen Slattery speaking about inclusive talks at A11y Chicago

At the November 2019 Chicago Digital Accessibility and Inclusive Design meetup last night, Fen Slattery highlighted steps you can take to give an accessible, inclusive presentation.

Slattery shared advice and tips about:

  • What to think about as you plan your talk
  • How to prepare readable slides
  • Using words and phrases that aren’t harmful
  • Structuring your presentation
  • Logistics for the day of your talk
  • Giving your talk
  • Getting feedback

I wasn’t able to catch the talk in person, since I was hosting our West Metro Detroit WordPress November 2019 meetup at the same time.

Thanks to the livestream recording, I watched the presentation later last night.

As an event organizer and presenter for over 10 years, I picked up several new tips from Slattery’s talk. Thank you Fen!

Are you looking for ways to create a more inclusive presentation? Check out my recap. Continue reading Takeaways from How to Deliver an Accessible and Inclusive Presentation
