If you’re a fan of jazz music, there’s no better way to enjoy Labor Day weekend in metro Detroit than to listen to the performances of local and international musicians at the free Detroit International Jazz Festival in downtown Detroit.

This year’s festival featured an incredible lineup of performers, including Ron Carter, George Benson, Chris Potter Underground Orchestra, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Barbara Ware Quartet, Roberta Gambarini, Jimmy Heath, and more. One of my favorite nights of the year is Noel Night. Celebrated the first Saturday evening in December, the midtown area in Detroit is shutdown to celebrate the holidays with more than 200 performances and exhibits by choirs, musicians, and artists at museums, libraries, Wayne State University, businesses, and churches.
