Photo of the Week: LuminoCITY Art Project Lights Up Downtown Detroit

Have you seen the incredible art installations throughout downtown Detroit this month?

I caught this gorgeous installation in Grand Circus Park last week, after I spoke at our Metro Detroit WordPress meetup.

Beautiful, isn’t it?

While the North American International Auto Show in Detroit always draws thousands of people to the city in January, this year’s auto show attendees also have the opportunity to take a walk about downtown Detroit to take in an outdoor art project.

The art piece I saw in Grand Circus Park is one of 16 art installations in Detroit that glow throughout the day and night.

LuminoCITY in Detroit

Part of the beautiful LuminoCITY temporary art installation in downtown Detroit for the auto show, the sculptures were created by Los Angeles based company Stereo.bot.

Led by Alexis Rochas and his team of designers, architects, and engineers, the LuminoCITY project combines art, technology, and design to create an interactive art installation that you can touch or dance to.

Or as I did, simply stand in awe at the beauty.

According to the Detroit Free Press article about the art project, the sculptures use a five-color palette and are programmed with layered lighting technology.

The art sculptures are made of a lightweight fabric held in place by an adaptive space-frame aluminum technology.

I stood watching the art installation at Grand Circus Park tonight for about five minutes; the light pattern of the art piece changed three times!

If you get a chance to visit downtown Detroit, I highly recommend you take a walkabout to catch this stunning art project!

Do it soon, the project is only in Detroit through February 18, 2017.
