One of the best conferences for learning about inclusive design and accessibility is back for another year.
Inclusive Design 24, the free online 24-hour conference returns Thursday, October 10, 2019.
Whether you’re a:
- Web designer
- Web developer
- Content strategist
- Digital marketer
- User experience professional
- Accessibility specialist
- Project manager
- Someone who wants to learn more
attending the online conference is an excellent way to improve your knowledge about inclusive design.
You’ll discover tools and strategies, learn about the challenges of inclusive design, and connect with others who are interested in or actively working in the inclusive design field.
Deque Systems Senior Accessibility Consultant Carie Fisher, Web Standards Group leader Russ Weakley, and Mozilla accessibility QA engineer and evangelist Marco Zehe are three of the 24 professionals who will be speaking at the event.
Did I mention the event is free?
About Inclusive Design 24
Inclusive Design 24 (ID24) is a 24-hour online community event, celebrating inclusive design and featuring experts from around the world sharing their knowledge and experience about inclusive design.
Consisting of 24 one-hour talks, this year’s event is the sixth year ID24 has offered a full day of one-hour sessions on all things inclusive design.
Not sure if the online conference will have anything for you?
The sessions range from beginner to advanced. And offer everything from usability testing to performance to designing inclusive content.
Here’s your opportunity to learn from the best and get actionable strategies for your next project.
All sessions are livestreamed on YouTube with captions.
Pre-registration is not required. Attend sessions when you can.
Added plus: as in the past, session recordings will be available after the event.
If you’re a meetup group organizer or want to share ID24 at your workplace, consider #ID24Local, where Inclusive Design 24 provides the conference and you provide the venue and conversation with attendees.
About the Sessions and Schedule
All sessions are streamed live. Each session begins at the top of the hour and ends with a Q & A.
If you have a question for the speaker, ask @id24conf on Twitter using the #id24 hashtag.
The ID24 schedule has been posted, but often there are changes that happen before the event.
My recommendations: if there’s a specific session you’re interested in attending, check the schedule a day or two before the event to confirm time.
Here are a few sessions I’m hoping to attend:
- Elizabeth J Pyatt: Accessibility in Any Language: From Language Tags to Legible Unicode Output
- Carie Fisher: Accessible Patterns from the Ground Up
- Stuart Langridge: The UX of Text
- Svetlana Kouznetsova: Accessibility for Deaf People: Beyond Video Captions and Sign Language
- Sarah Lewthwaite: Teaching accessibility: 10 messages from research
Wrapping Up
I believe I’ve attended every ID24 event for the past five years and I always learn something new.
If you want to learn more about inclusive design as well as connect with others who share your interest, join me October 10, 2019 for the free ID24 event.
As I have in the past, I’ll be live tweeting sessions at @redcrew on Twitter.
Hope you consider attending!
