Returning for the ninth year, World Information Architecture (IA) Day Ann Arbor is the annual event created by the Information Architecture Institute and produced by local volunteers.

The Ann Arbor event will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 and is organized by School of Information students at the University of Michigan.

This year’s theme: The IA Element.

The Ann Arbor event is one of 60 World IA Day 2019 events being held around the world in North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Did I mention the event is free?

What is World IA Day?

Information architecture is “the practice of deciding how to arrange the parts of something to be understandable.”

Which involves organizing, structuring, and labeling information in a useful manner for everyone.

On World IA Day, local organizers invite everyone to attend events focused on learning, sharing, and discussing information architecture.

The event is inclusive. It’s for everyone in the community, not only people who design, develop, architect, or manage information.

At World IA Day Ann Arbor, you’ll learn how information architecture can make a difference in our communities and our lives and how IA:

  • Ties and binds different ideas involved, the end users, the stakeholders, the designers and the developers
  • Is often the bridge element between them all and tying together through understanding
  • Filters the noise for a better collaboration for a growing community
