A new moon orbiting Uranus, people worldwide reporting they are living better lives, and an email address quiz are some of the interesting stories I’ve read and enjoyed in the past month.
I hope you enjoy them, too!
What I Found Interesting
-
Around the world more people are living better lives and are more hopeful of the future, according to the annual Gallup Life Evaluation Index.
In 2024, adults in 142 countries rated their current and future lives on a scale from 0 (worst) to 10 (best).
Young and old, men and women, all rate their lives better than they did in the past.
Understanding how people evaluate their own lives is an important measure of human progress, unlike traditional economic metrics like GDP (General Domestic Product), which, while related to living standards, fail to capture whether people are living well.

Initially launched in London, England and Bristol, England, the Iceland frozen food store has expanded their product markdown notification alerts across all of the United Kingdom.
Iceland’s national food waste reduction program partnered with Olio and Gander apps to send notifications to shoppers about markdowns (yellow sticker prices).

I missed this news in June 2025. Microsoft is extending Windows 10 operating system support for free if you meet the requirements.
Originally expected to end October 14, 2025, Windows 10 support can be extended for a year if you link your Microsoft account and sync Settings to the cloud.
Or if you prefer not to link your account, you can either pay $30 to keep using Windows 10 or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points.

Hmmm. Everyone knows what a valid email address is, because email is easy. Right?
Complete this Email is Easy quiz and let me know how your results.
(Given over 25+ years setting up email for clients, I thought I would fare well on the quiz. I didn’t, only came out as “average.”)

Exciting! The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) found another moon orbiting Uranus.
Known as S/2025 U1, the new moon is only six miles in diameter.
A team led by scientists at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in Colorado made 10 different 40-minute exposures of Uranus using JWST’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) in order to find the small moon.
With the latest discovery, Uranus has 29 moons. I had no idea Uranus had so many moons.

Belle Isle State Park is one of my favorite parks in southeast Michigan. I’ve been going to the park since I was a child and found a renewed interest in it when I started birdwatching.
Which is why I was so happy to learn the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is seeking community feedback on 11 possible projects at Belle Isle State Park in downtown Detroit, Michigan.
The online survey, open through Labor Day (September 1, 2025) asks people to rank 11 projects.
I submitted my survey and added my comments about opening up the casino space to more public usage.
