Thoughts on Reaching a Milestone

Yesterday, I reached a milestone—my 500th post on this site.

To everyone who reads my blog, and especially to those who have followed me since the beginning, I thank you for your comments, feedback, suggestions, and yes, your opposing viewpoints.

I hope you found something useful from the posts I’ve written.

No, I never dreamed I would write that many posts.

A few weeks ago, I noticed I was getting close to 500 posts, and wondered how I would recognize reaching it.

It took me back to when I first started blogging four years ago on Posterous, now long shuttered.

How I Started Blogging

My friends encouraged me to start blogging. They asked, “Why don’t you share some of your advice, tips, and photos on your own site? You always have good tips to share.”

I started out slowly, sharing a blog post every one or two weeks, mostly focused on productivity, computers, and photos.

I loved using Posterous, and even wrote a how-to manual about blogging on Posterous.

Then one of my friends said, “Deborah, you share lots of great web resources on your Twitter account. I can’t keep up with all of it. Can you share all those resources in one post?”

Which is how the weekly roundups of web design and development resources started.

When Posterous announced it was shutting down, I moved the blog to this website.

Over the years, the blog has transitioned to focus on web professionals topics, but I also share productivity and computer tips and of course, photos.

In 2013, I started a monthly calendar for web professionals in southeast Michigan, which has been a great experience connecting people in our area with the many meetups, conferences, and networking events in our area.

I’ve participated in one National Blog Posting Month, and have managed to write a post daily for four months.

It’s been wonderful to get to know people from around the world who share their comments, tell me about other tools and resources, send email messages, and suggest new topics for future posts.

I’ve very grateful to my readers, and thankful to have discovered and learned from their blogs. Several are now friends of mine and we chat regularly.

Blogging has been a wonderful adventure, and I’m looking forward to what the next 500 posts will bring.

Have you started a blog? Do you post regularly? What are your reasons for blogging? Share your thoughts in the comments.
