The ornament we bought this year when we visited Kitch-iti-iipi in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan hangs on our Christmas tree next to the brass musical ornament we bought over 20 years ago for our first Christmas together.

One of my favorite things to do during the holiday break is to sit in our living room, chatting with my family about our ornaments, when we created them, when we bought them, and all the stories that go along with them. One of my favorite nights of the year is Noel Night. Celebrated the first Saturday evening in December, the midtown area in Detroit is shutdown to celebrate the holidays with more than 200 performances and exhibits by choirs, musicians, and artists at museums, libraries, Wayne State University, businesses, and churches.
