Detroit Month of Design Festival Launches September 1

Detroit Month of Design event calendar highlighting events in two rows of event into with photos, event title, dates and event type.

Eastern Market After Dark, a solar-powered sound sculpture performance, and a panel discussion exploring the lasting impact of art and design on our communities are three of the 70+ exhibitions, installations, lectures, workshops, tours and more happening throughout Detroit and online from September 1 through 30.

Returning for the 12th year, Detroit Month of Design offers an array of virtual, outdoor, and indoor events to celebrate and highlight the creativity and work of Detroit designers.

Every September, Detroit-area artists and designers, community leaders, and students come together at the festival to show off their work and ideas that makes Detroit a UNESCO City of Design.

As you travel the outer road around Belle Isle State Park near the Detroit River boat channel between Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, you can’t miss the tall gray tower north of the road.

When I saw the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon this week, gorgeous early summer blooms of yarrow and orange butterfly milkweed in Oudolf Garden Detroit created a beautiful carpet of color in front of the tower.

Dedicated to peace, the 85-foot tall neo-Gothic tower has a rich history.
