When you visit Detroit’s riverfront along the Detroit River, I hope you find time to take a ride on the Cullen Family Carousel at Cullen Plaza.

Open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 7PM Eastern Time from late May to Labor Day (the first Monday in September), the carousel offers free rides.

On the side of Iraqi Bakery in Detroit’s Cody Rouge neighbohood on the far west side, you’ll found a brightly colored wall mural that captures your attention as you head east on West Warren.

Photo of the Week: Eliza Howell Park Stickwork

A hutlike structure with mutliple levels, the hand-woven branches form an incredible welcoming sculpture at the park entrance, inviting people to walk inside.

Within a few hundred feet after you enter Eliza Howell Park in northwest Detroit, you immediately see an amazing natural sculpture rising from the ground.

I was impressed when I saw it and wondered who created it, and how it was made.

From what I learned from Sidewalk Detroit, the organization that hosted the artist, the “Stickwork” sculpture was created by artist Patrick Dougherty.
