With a cold breeze off the Detroit River and temperatures at the freezing mark, it’s no surprise I found the Frozen Planet variety of dwarf iris in bloom this weekend at Oudolf Garden Detroit. You can’t miss the large steel sculpture as you complete the curve on Lakeshore Drive from the U.S. Coast Guard Station on the Detroit River at Belle Isle State Park in Detroit, Michigan.

The copper-colored sculpture with blue glass stands out on a raised slope on the east side of the park, where the lighthouse trail starts.

Head to Belle Isle State Park, of course, for a scavenger hunt to find the fairies!

Which is what I did this weekend, when the Fairy Doors returned to the Belle Isle Aquarium and Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory for the second year.
