Making a piece of software accessible to people with a broad range of disabilities is hard, says Vint Cerf, widely recognized as one of the “Fathers of the Internet.”

For someone with visual impairments, they may need magnification, color contrast, or a voice presentation of the interface.

While someone who has a motor disability may need to use a keyboard or an eye-tracking device.

In his The Future of Accessibility keynote address at the axe-con two-day conference, Cerf discussed how accommodations for people with disabilities benefit everyone, why people with disabilities need to be part of the design process, and the importance of empathy. Axe-con: Free, Online Digital Accessibility Conference on March 10-11, 2021

Axe-con building accessible experiences, virtual conference: March 10-11, 2021.

The inaugural axe-con, an open and inclusive digital accessibility virtual conference hosted by Deque Systems, launches March 10 to 11, 2021 with over 90 speakers from around the world.

Named for their axe-core project, an open source library and accessibility testing engine, the free two-day event features a variety of presentations, including case studies, accessibility compliance, best practices, and updates from technology leaders from around the world.
