Speaking at WordCamp Columbus on Accessibility

This weekend I’ll be speaking at WordCamp Columbus with my friend Jacki Keys on how you can improve the accessibility of your WordPress websites.

Our session is Saturday, August 2 from 10:30am to 11:15am in Room C. If you’re in the Columbus area, I hope to see you there!

I realize it’s short notice to make the announcement; it all happened quickly this morning.

But it’s a wonderful story of Twitter, friendships developed online through shared interests, and how the WordPress community stays connected, even though we may only see each other in person once a year.

It all started with a tweet I shared early this morning.

Which caught the attention of my friend Jacki Keys, who shared it.

Our conversation carried on.

And caught the eye of our friend and WordCamp Columbus organizer Angie Meeker.

I reached out to Jacki, to find out if she was interested in joining me for the talk.

Jacki and I chatted via Twitter direct messages about what we could discuss in an accessibility talk. Within a few minutes, we told Angie we would be happy to speak at WordCamp Columbus.

Angie quickly confirmed our presentation. And our talk was added to the schedule.

Now to get the details worked out.

The conversation between the three of us took less than an hour.

The power of Twitter and friendships.

  1. Hi Mary,

Thank you! Excited to be attending and speaking at WordCamp Columbus; I had a great time last year. We’re still working out details on the talk. It may be more of a panel discussion.
