Share Your Favorite Plugin: Enable Media Replace

Imagine you’re updating an image gallery on your WordPress site.

And all you want to do is replace one image you used last year with a new version. But you want to keep the same file name.

You could take the time and trouble to locate the image in your Media Library, delete the file, and upload the new image.

Wouldn’t it be easier to use a plugin that makes it simple to replace the image?

Enable Media Replace

Enable Media Replace

Available in the WordPress plugin repository, the free Enable Media Replace plugin makes simple work of updating and replacing files in your Media Library.

I discovered the plugin from a friend who shared it in a WordPress designer group, and am I glad she shared it.

Enable Media Replace has been a timesaver for me when I need to replace images!

Why I Like It

  • Easy to use
  • It has one goal: to upload a new file to replace an old file with the same name
  • I don’t have to take the extra steps to delete an image in the Media Library

How the Plugin Works

Once the plugin is installed and enabled, you’ll find a new option, Replace Media, in the edit options for each file in the Media Library.

Select Replace Media to upload a new file to replace the existing file in the Media Library.

I’ve found using Enable Replace Media pretty straightforward. But if the new file isn’t displaying:

  • Clear your cache if you’re not seeing the new image
