How to Remove a Recovery Email Address for an Unknown Google Account

You’re reading your email messages and you find an unexpected message from Google with the subject line: Google Verification Code.

Which sends up a red flag.

Why are you getting an email message about a verification code when you haven’t recently logged in to your Google account?

Your first thoughts might be you’re being spammed.

Or someone hacked your account.

Maybe someone had a typo when they entered the recovery email address.

Whatever, the reason, it’s frustrating.

I know because I’ve received a few messages recently from Google with a verification code for an unknown Google account.

It wasn’t an account I owned

But I didn’t want to keep getting the messages.

Read on to learn how to revoke your email address as the recovery email address.

Remove a Recovery Email Address from an Unknown Google Account

From the email message you received, you’ll find a sentence near the bottom that you received the message because your email account is listed as the recovery email for the unknown Google account.

In the next sentence, you’re given the link to remove your email address from the unknown Google account.

Select that link and you’re asked to confirm removing your account as the recovery email account.

Select the Remove email button and you’ll receive confirmation your email address has been removed.

Recovery email removed. Your email address has been removed as a recovery email for the account rodeopro666@gmail.com

That’s it.
