Remember and Honor: Memorial Day 2021

This morning I joined more than 150 community members at our Canton Township Memorial Day service at Heritage Park to honor and remember those who died in service to the United States.

Hosted by the Canton Fire Department, the Memorial Day service marked the 10th anniversary of our Veteran’s Memorial Center.

The center honors the “Fallen 22” Marines deployed for duty in 2006-07 to Iraq who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Black Iraqi freedom monument with names of 22 fallen Marines killed with etched photos of the Marines on each side of the list, a silver bell post to the side of the monument.

As each name of the 22 Marines was read aloud, a bell was rung.

The service ended with the playing of “Taps” by a single bugler under the trees near the memorial.
