Facebook Live scored a win today at its town hall meeting with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hosting United States President Barack Obama. Held at Facebook headquarters in California, what made the town hall event amazing (to me) were the live questions asked via the Facebook wall and the audience who attended.
The event started out low key with the President introducing himself:
My name is Barack Obama and I’m the guy who got Mark (Zuckerman) to wear a jacket and tie.
One of the first people in the audience to ask President Obama a question identified herself as a Facebook employee originally from Detroit, Michigan.
Her question allowed President Obama to comment on government investments making a difference “… we essentially saved the U.S. auto industry.”
Key comments from President Obama during the town hall:
- Government alone can’t do it. We need a shift in America culture. Let’s make science cool.
- We’ve got to lift our game up when it comes to science, math and technology. That’s hopefully the greatest legacy I can have as President of the United States
- We are both a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws.What’s undeniable is America is a nation of immigrants. That’s what makes us stronger.
- Why can’t we eliminate the $4 billion in tax breaks to oil companies and invest that money instead in alternative energy?
