Photo of the Week: Winter Sowing Up-Potting Workshop

This morning I joined other members of our Wayne County Wild Ones chapter as we up-potted our winter sown native plants from late January.

It was the perfect day for the workshop: sunny, temperatures in the 50’s degrees Fahrenheit, and little wind.

And it was fun to chat with other members about our results. Some plants were over four inches tall, while others were less than 1/2 inch.

Sadly, some seeds never germinated for a few members.

The flat of plants in today’s photo is one of three flats I up-potted of purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), pearly everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea), anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum), and six other native plants.

Like my fellow Wild Ones members, I had plenty of plants for my own garden and shared several seedlings in the community plant section.

I was glad to find a few coreopsis seedlings in the community plant section for a fellow member who couldn’t make it today for the workshop.

And I picked up some more nodding onion (Allium cernuum) to add to my garden.
