Photo of the Week: Snowy Owl in Southeast Michigan

Snowy Owl perched on utility post in snow-covered field

Imagine my excitement in finding my first Snowy Owl in late November 2017, spotted on the ground near a fence, in southeast Michigan.

What a magnificent bird to see in person!

No snow was on the ground, so it made searching for the owl a bit easier.

When I first spotted the white clump near the fence, I thought it was white plastic bag, caught in the wire.

I took a closer look through my binoculars to see it wasn’t a bag, but a Snowy Owl staring at me.

Six weeks later, it’s the beginning of January. Almost seven inches of snow is on the ground, with piles of snow covering the landscape.

And I managed to catch another look at the Snowy Owl.

Priceless.
