Photo of the Week: Riverside Park Mural

With a view of the Ambassador Bridge spanning the international waters of the Detroit River in the background, you might overlook the brightly colored mural on the narrow one-story building in Riverside Park.

Created by artist Jake Dwyer, the mural is at the entrance of the far east parking lot. It depicts almost a dozen indigenous animals swimming in the blue-green waters of the river.

According to Detroit’s mural map, the mural has no title and was completed in 2020.

I quickly identified the white-backed Canvasback duck with its chestnut-colored head, black chest, and black webbed feet diving into the water currents.

As well as the yellow-billed Mallard with its green head, brown breast, grayish body and orange webbed feet.

But I can’t identify the fish in the mural, so I’m not sure what species they are. If you can identify the fish, let me know in the comments.
