Photo of the Week: Rainbow Over James Scott Memorial Fountain

For someone who’s rarely had her camera with her when she sees a rainbow, I’ve had remarkable luck this year photographing rainbows.

And this past week topped it off when I discovered what was at the end of the rainbow at Belle Isle State Park in Detroit.

When I left home and headed toward Detroit to catch the last night in 2016 for James Scott Memorial Fountain colorful night time light show, I could see the dark slate gray skies over the downtown area.

Uh oh. Not good. I didn’t want to spend my evening dodging rain showers while trying to catch some photos of the fountain.

My hope was that the rain clouds would continue heading east, and the blue skies in the west would take over.

Which happened.

I arrived at the park to see puddles of water on the road, but no rain. Hurrah!

And to top it off, a rainbow appeared over the James Scott Memorial Fountain. Beautiful.

While most people were gone by the time the fountain turned on at 8:30pm there were a few photographers and couples who enjoyed the red, blue, and gold colors of the fountain light show, the last show for 2016.
