Photo of the week: Dwarf Iris at Oudolf Garden Detroit

With a cold breeze off the Detroit River and temperatures at the freezing mark, it’s no surprise I found the Frozen Planet variety of dwarf iris in bloom this weekend at Oudolf Garden Detroit.

The blooms have white standards with a slight hue of blue. The blue falls have white and yellow markings.

Located in front of the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon at Belle Isle State Park, the three-acre garden has hundreds of bulbs planted, but only a few species are flowering now.

Not surprised, spring seems to be about two weeks behind in southeast Michigan.

Snow flurries were forecast this weekend, but thankfully I didn’t see any.

But that cold breeze off the Detroit River sure was biting! I hoped to see spring migrating birds while I was visiting the garden and walking the trails at Belle Isle.

Given the cold. cloudy weather, there were no migrating birds I could find.

Can’t blame them for waiting for warmer weather!
