Photo of the Week: Cullen Family Carousel

When you visit Detroit’s riverfront along the Detroit River, I hope you find time to take a ride on the Cullen Family Carousel at Cullen Plaza.

Open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 7PM Eastern Time from late May to Labor Day (the first Monday in September), the carousel offers free rides.

It’s a special treat to take a ride.

Adjacent to the Boll Family Fountains and with great views of the river, you won’t find the typical horses, lions, and tigers on the Cullen Family Carousel.

Instead you’ll find hand-created sculptures of animals indigenous to the Detroit River area, including:

  • Egret
  • Loon
  • Sturgeon
  • Walleye
  • Frog
  • Bald Eagle
  • Catfish

and more.

Afterwards, take a stroll down the riverfront where you might see a Ring-necked Pheasant foraging for food at nearby William G. Milliken State Park.

A fun way to enjoy a summer day!
