Photo of the Week: Belle Isle’s Scott Fountain

One of my favorite places to visit on Detroit’s Belle Isle is the Scott Fountain on the west side of the island.

The marble fountain was in disrepair for years, and subsequently turned off. But since the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has taken over management of Belle Isle this year, the fountain is once again flowing.

According to the Belle Isle Convervancy, there are over 100 water outlets in the fountain, in the shape of turtle, lions, and people.

It’s a beautiful site and I often see rose petals strewn on the steps from wedding parties having their pictures taken. These photos were taken in the early morning, just after sunrise.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the fountain puts on a light show at dusk, which I’m hoping to see this week.

Have you visited the Scott Fountain? Did you see the light show at dusk?
