While everyone else I knew was fast asleep on an early Sunday morning, I was up at 5:45am to head out the door for a morning of birdwatching at Belle Isle State Park in Detroit, Michigan.
I joined 13 other birders (people who watch birds) in peering through my binoculars at the 50 to 75 foot tall tree branches early on a damp gray Sunday morning to look for spring migrants and other birds.
One of my favorite birds to see in spring: the black and orange Baltimore Oriole whose bright colors always stand out against the bright green leaves.
This oriole perched long enough for me to capture a photo of him on a bird feeder at the Belle Isle Nature Zoo before he flew off into the woods.
