Have you seen the Aretha Franklin mural in Detroit’s Eastern Market?
It’s well hidden and if you didn’t know it was there, you might not find it.
I was told it was on the back wall of Gratiot Central Market, but I went around the block three times before I discovered it.
The Aretha mural is part of a larger mural London artist Richard Wilson painted as part of the 2018 Murals in the Market art event.
But when vehicles are parked in the back parking lot, the mural is blocked from view.
You need to get out of your vehicle, walk to the back of the market in the parking lot, and find a spot where few vehicles are in front of the wall.
There you’ll see it, in the bottom left corner of the wall: Wilson’s mural of Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul.
