My 10 Most Popular Posts in 2022

One of my favorite things to do at the end of the year is review my published posts.

As someone who’s been publishing posts online since 2009, I’m fascinated by what posts readers enjoy the most.

And I’m never sure why one post is more popular than others.

Or what readers find interesting or helpful in a particular post.

Reviewing my most popular published posts in 2022, readers enjoyed posts about accessibility, technology, and WordPress.

Read on to discover which posts were most popular!

1. How to Get/Reset Your Google Voice PIN

When Google Voice announced Legacy Google Voice was closing down in 2022, I needed to take action to set up a Google Voice Pin.

Something I never did in the past because I was using Google Voice before it was called Google Voice.

2. Affinity Offers 50% Off Products Through May 31, 2022

Affinity products by Serif, Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher, are a popular alternative to expensive licensing of Adobe products for photographers, designers, artists, and anyone who manages and edits creative works.

3. How to Remove a Recovery Email Address for an Unknown Google Account

After receiving a notification message with a Google recovery code, I set out to learn how to revoke an email address as the recovery email address for an account I didn’t own.

4. What to Know About Accessible PDFs From Microsoft Word and Google Docs

No surprise my recap of Julie Romanowski’s Knowbility presentation Intro to Documents & PDFs made the top 10 most popular posts.

Romanowski’s tips and resources are useful for everyone interested in creating accessible PDFs.

Her first tip is the most important: make sure the source document is accessible.

5. How People with Disabilities Browse the Web Using Assistive Technologies [Video Series]

Did you know you can completely navigate and control websites through speech?

Using speech recognition, you can say “Tab” to move to items in a list, instead of using the keyboard.

The Browsing with assistive technology video series from TetraLogical is a helpful series of short (less than five-minute) YouTube videos where you can learn more about specific assistive technology.

6. How to Make Sure Your Accessible PDFs Stay Accessible in WordPress

No one wants to discover all their accessibility work disappears when they upload an accessible PDF to their WordPress site.

But that’s what happened to one of my colleagues, who contacted me about the issue. And asked me how it could be resolved.

I researched and discovered what caused the issues.

And explained how to make sure it didn’t happen again.

7. Inclusive Design 24 Returns September 22, 2022: Call for Speakers

One priority I’ve had for years is to share upcoming events, conferences, and meetups to my readers. Inclusive Design 24 is one of my favorite events!

Why?

It’s online, captioned, and introduces web professionals to a slew of people discussing how to make sure what we publish, design, and develop on the web is accessible to everyone.

8. Remove Obtrusive Ads in the WordPress Admin Dashboard with Clarity – Ad Blocker Plugin

Nagging ads in the WordPress administrative dashboard has been a pet peeve of mine for years.

Hate that clutter!

Which is why I was glad to find a solution to remove those obtrusive ads.

9. Seven Years of Asking: I’m Still Waiting for WordPress.com to Publish Captioned Videos

Never did I think it would take seven years of asking WordPress.com to caption their videos so everyone would have access to them.

But it did.

I’m writing a post I didn’t think I would ever write. It’s about a multi-million dollar company where I’m a 10+ year customer.

And whose services I’ve advocated for years.

Which makes this post even harder to write.

10. Changes

My post announcing my retirement from web design and development, after 25 years in the business.

Bittersweet to publish the post.

I’m leaving a community of people I loved being a part of.

Met new friends, discovered fascinating interests, and took on leadership roles to help others learn about web design, development, user experience, and accessibility.
