It’s a busy month for call for speakers. Last week TEDxDetroit announced their call for speakers. This week, Ignite UX Michigan put out their call for speakers.
Back for its third year, Ignite UX Michigan returns to Ann Arbor for a free evening of five-minute user experience talks on September 15, 2015.
For 2015, Ignite UX Michigan moves to a new venue, Live on Main Street, which can accommodate a larger group of people.
Ignite UX Michigan is a popular event, bringing attendees from:
- Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti
- Grand Rapids
- Lansing
- Owosso
- Metro Detroit
- Northwestern Ohio
I like attending since it’s one of the few annual events bringing together UX people in Michigan in one place. We enjoy a great evening of talks, chat with each other, and catch up.
For the past two years, the event was overflowing and many people had to stand during the presentations. I’m excited to check out the new venue!
What is Ignite UX Michigan?
Launched in 2013 by Mike Beasley and Whitney Ferdon, Ignite UX Michigan is an evening of free five-minute talks, open to the public.
The event features 12 speakers, each speaking on a user experience-related topic.
Who will you see at Ignite UX Michigan? User experience and usability professionals, information architects, content strategists, interaction designers, and accessibility professionals as well as college students speaking on and learning about user experience.
I asked Mike what makes him excited about Ignite UX Michigan:
The ultimate goal of Ignite UX Michigan is to increase the diversity of speakers at user experience events and offer an opportunity to people that don’t normally give talks.
One of the most exciting things about Ignite UX Michigan is that you get to hear from a lot of great speakers in a short amount of time.
So far, the response from the UX community has been enthusiastic—people have submitted so many great talks, and attendance has exceeded expectations both years.
Call for Speakers
Ignite UX Michigan is open to talks from anyone interested in speaking on a user experience-related topic.
You don’t have to be a professional speaker; Ignite UX Michigan is a great way for you to give your first talk.
Each speaker has 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds, for a five-minute talk.
Topics for a talk include:
- Usability
- Accessibility
- Information architecture
- Analytics
- Interaction design
- Web analytics
- Agile
- Lean UX
To apply, you’ll need to provide your topic topic and description of your talk (description limited to 140 characters). Apply online by filling out the submit a talk form.
Speaker submissions deadline is July 20 2015.
Thanks to my friend Mike Wojan for allowing me to use his photo of Willie Northway speaking at last year’s Ignite UX Michigan.
