Definition of Usability

What is the definition of usability?

Steve Krug, author of Don’t Make Me Think, puts it this way:

His [relatively unchanged] definition:

Something is usable if a person of average (or even below average) ability and experience

  • can figure out how to use the thing
  • to accomplish some desired goal
  • without it being more trouble than it’s worth

Thank you to NE Los Angeles UX Group for sharing it on Twitter.
