Anne Lamott: 12 Truths I Learned from Life and Writing [TED Video]

When I watched Anne Lamott’s talk from this year’s TED event in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, I laughed and nodded as she shared her 12 truths.

Written a few days after she turned 61, the truths touch on life, helping others, self-care, family, and 75 percent cacao in a witty, thoughtful, and sometimes sarcastic way.

Her comments about writing stood out for me:

Every writer you know writes really terrible first drafts, but they keep their butt in the chair. That’s the secret of life.

That’s probably the main difference between you and them. They just do it.

They do it by prearrangement with themselves. They do it as a debt of honor.

Hope you enjoy her 16-minute talk as much as I did.
