Are you a fan of Advent calendars? I am!
This year marks the sixth year I’ve published a roundup of online Advent calendars for people who work on the web.
Whether you’re a web designer, developer, programmers, user experience professional, digital marketer, blogger, or writer, you’re bound to find an interesting Advent calendar in my collection.
If you’ve been a long-time reader of my blog, you’ll notice some of the regulars in the list: 24 ways, Perl, UXMas, and several new ones.
Check out my collection of Advent calendars and let me know which one is your favorite!
1. 24 ways
Hard to believe it’s been 14 years since the first 24 ways calendar for web geeks was published. You’ll find code snippets, business and client advice, design inspiration, and more.
2. UXMas Advent Calendar
An Advent calendar for user experience professionals, the UXMas Advent Calendar from UX Mastery and Thirst Studios offers a new UX goodie every day from leading UX specialists.
3. 24 Accessibility
Returning for the second year, 24 Accessibility offers 24 days of digital accessibility wisdom from experts around the world.
This year my friend Dennis Deacon is joined by Carie Fisher and Scott O’Hara in curating the articles for 24 Accessibility.
4. Perl Advent Calendar
I had no idea the Perl Advent Calendar by London Perl Mongers dates back to the year 2000. Amazing!
Back for its 19th year, check out the 2018 Perl Advent Calendar with 24 pearls of wisdom about Perl.
5. Perl 6 One-Liner Advent Calendar
For 24 days, Andrew Shitov will be publishing short articles that either explain the code from the Perl 6 Calendar 2019 or solve some problems inspired by Project Euler.
6. 24 Days in December
Sharing thoughts on the PHPamily, the 24 Days in December calendar is focused on the PHP programming language.
You won’t find code snippets in the daily articles.
What you will find, and what I love reading, are the personal stories the authors share about their projects, team, and working with PHP.
7. PHP Security Advent Calendar
For the third year, RIPS Technology offers a PHP Security Advent Calendar.
And this year’s calendar has caught my attention: each day they will analyze a unique security bug they detected in the most widespread WordPress plugins.
8. Advent of Code
Created by Eric Wastl, the 2018 Advent of Code calendar offers all kinds of fun programming puzzles for you to solve.
The puzzles are for a variety of skills sets and experience; you can use whatever programming language you want to solve them.
9. Christmas Experiments
The Christmas Experiments Advent calendar features a daily illustration by creatives in the community.
Note: the About page was impossible to read on my Chromebook when I was checking my post before publishing. If you can read it, you have far better vision than I do!
10. Lean UXmas
Curated by Kathryn Leach and Adrian Howard from QuietStars, the 2018 Lean UXmas calendar features the most popular articles from this year’s Agile & Lean UX News.
11. 24 Jours de Web
The Advent calendar for people who work on the web, 24 Jours de Web is back for the seventh year publishing a daily article about web design, development, working with clients, accessibility and more.
Note: the calendar is in French. I’ve used Chrome to translate the text to English.
12. Xink Advent Calendar | 24 Years of Email History
Take a journey back in time with an email history memory from the past 24 years in the Xink Advent Calendar.
13. Digital Wellbeing Advent Calendar
Learn how to live well with the web, social media, and your smartphone with positive strategies from experts in the 2018 Digital Wellbeing Advent Calendar.
