It’s the first day of December.
For me and many other people who design and work on websites/web applications, that means Advent calendars for web professionals.
While not as popular (or numerous) as in the past, the calendars a fun way to enjoy December when you’re working on finishing your projects for the year.
Each calendar offers tips, stories, or information about technology, design, and working on the web.
Which is why I publish a roundup each year of online Advent calendars for web professionals.
Who wouldn’t want early holiday gifts of knowledge and stories from colleagues?
From user experience to online security to PHP and more, you’ll find a calendar for your interests in my roundup.
Here’s my list of 2021 advent calendars for web professionals.
Let me know which calendar is your favorite!
Advent Calendars for Web Professionals
Bekk Christmas
Norwegian agency Bekk continues their tradition of creating Advent calendars focused on technology, design, and strategy.
From their 2021 Bekk Christmas calendar announcement, Bekk is publishing one post each day that links to multiple posts for that day. Each post is focused on different topics.
For the December 1 post, there are five links to posts about user experience, JavaScript, security, and machine learning.
The posts are short, less than five minutes to read. Posts are written in English or Norwegian.
I was a little confused at first, wondering how the posts were organized, until I found you can access all the posts from their Advent calendar.
Perl Weekly Challenge Calendar
New to me this year, the Perl Weekly Challenge Advent Calendar 2021 is in its third year for Advent calendars.
From the calendar description, each day will present an interesting topic from members of the Perl Weekly Challenge community.
24 Days in December
I always look forward to the 24 Days in December each year.
A PHP-focused calendar, it doesn’t focus on the technology or code snippets. Rather each author shares stories about their work and the community.
Advent of Code
Created by Eric Wastl, the 2021 Advent of Code calendar offers small programming puzzles. Released daily at midnight, the puzzles are for a variety of skill sets and skill levels.
To play any of the puzzles, you’ll need to authenticate with GitHub, Google, Twitter, or Reddit.
The first day’s puzzle involves elves, a ship, and Christmas lights. Have I caught your attention?
Lean UXmas
Returning for their eighth year, the top articles from 2021’s Agile & Lean UX News are highlighted in the 2021 Lean UXmas calendar.
The calendar is curated by Kathryn Leach and Adrian Howard from QuietStars.
24 Jours de Web
Celebrating its 10th year, 24 Jours de Web returns with an Advent calendar of 24 authors publishing daily articles.
You’ll find posts about web design, development, working with clients, and accessibility.
Day 1 discusses the difference between privacy and accessibility.
Note: the calendar is in French. Install an add-on or extension if you want to read the article in English.
SysAdvent
Written by sysadmins, the Sys Advent Calendar brings daily tips about systems administration topics written by fellow sysadmins.
I was surprised to learn the first SysAdvent calendar was published in 2008.
This year marks the 12th year of the SysAdvent calendar (they missed publishing in 2018 and 2020.)
Advent of Cyber
Get started in cyber security by learning the basics with the daily beginner-friendly security exercises in Advent of Cyber.
Each day’s exercise is self-contained and includes the info you need to start working on it.
The calendar offers prizes; the more questions you answer, the more chance you have of winning.
IT Security Advent Calendar
Improve your online safety with the tips offered in the IT Security Advent Calendar from Infowebica.
Each day you’ll find a new tip to keep your devices, networks, and data protected.
DBS Advent Calendar
Get marketing tips for your content, whether its for your website or social media in the DBS Advent Calendar.
A Twitter-only calendar, you’ll get helpful digital marketing tips in one daily tweet.
HTMHell Advent Calendar
New this year from Manuel Matuzović, the HTMHell Advent calendar offers a daily article, talk, or tool that focuses on HTML.
React Holiday Advent Calendar Newsletter
Another new Advent calendar for my 2021 roundup: the React Holiday Advent Calendar Newsletter created by Michael Chan, host of React Podcast.

Designcember
New this year is Designcember, an Advent calendar celebrating web design from the folks at web.dev.
Beautifully designed, every day in December you can open a new window with a user interface development treat.
WordPress Advent Calendar
Late to the roundup, since it was launched today, is the WordPress Advent Calendar sharing already-published posts, tips, and resources about the popular platform.
There hasn’t been a WordPress Advent calendar for a few years, so I decided to create one myself!
Web Performance Calendar
With a tagline of “The speed geek’s favorite time of the year”, you’ll find lots of tips to speed up your web site and applications in the Web Performance Calendar.
One of the longest running Advent calendars, Web Performance calendar first launched in 2009.
12 Days of Web
A different take on Advent Calendars, 12 Days of Web from Stephanie Eckles kicks off December 13, 2021 with a year-end celebration of fundamental web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
You’ll need to subscribe to receive daily email messages December 13th to December 24th.
Summary
Hope you enjoy the online Advent calendars for web professionals as much as I do.
They’re an excellent way to explore an interesting topic, read about another web professional’s journey, and get tips on your work.
As in the past, I’ll update this post throughout December as I find other online Advent calendars.
