Advent Calendars for Web Professionals: 2016

It’s the season! Today kicks off the first day of Advent calendars with my annual roundup of online calendars for web professionals.

You’ll find a wide range of useful information for web designers, developers, programmers, content strategists, heck, anyone who works on the web.

I’m always inspired with the tips and advice in the Advent calendars from 24 ways, Performance Calendar, Sys Advent, UXMas (glad you’re back!), and others.

Can’t wait to open the doors for the daily tip, sketch, video, and other helpful advice about working on the web.

You’ll notice a few new calendars in this year’s roundup as well as the regular calendars I’ve shared over the past few years.

Unfortunately, a couple calendars from last year’s roundup weren’t published this year. Hopefully we’ll see them again next year!

Take a look at this year’s roundup of calendars and let me know what your favorite is.

1. 24 ways

Back for its 12th year, the 24 ways calendar is dedicated to bringing a daily dose of web design and development goodness to you.

You’ll find posts about ideas and techniques for web design, development, and accessibility.

After taking a year off, the UXMas Advent Calendar for user experience designers returns. I’m thrilled to see the calendar back this year!

Each day of Advent you’ll find a video, sketch, or tip to further your UX knowledge.

From their website:

UXmas is a joint effort from the teams at Thirst Studios & UX Mastery. We created the site partly as a way of giving back to the UX community during the festive season.

11. 24 Days in December

I missed this advent calendar last year, but I enjoy the concept of 24 Days in December: a focus on the community.

While the focus is on the PHP community, what the contributors write about each day could apply to any community, whether you’re in user experience, WordPress, or some other development language.

12. Advent Calendar 2016

I was sad to hear WebKrauts didn’t plan to create an Advent calendar in 2016, but was thrilled when they told me their founder Jens Grochtdreis had an Advent calendar.

His Advent Calendar 2016 showcases interesting CodePens he has found. Grochtdreis shares short comments and thoughts about each CodePen.

13. Advent of Code

Thanks to my friend Claire Brotherton who told me about the Advent of Code calendar, a series of small programming puzzles for a variety of programming skill levels.

Created by Eric Wastl, the puzzles are self-contained and offer a challenge to the expert programmer as well as someone who is just learning to code.
