Hard to believe it’s the end of another year already. It was an amazing year, filled with many successes as well as challenges. Here’s a recap of my favorite events and activities:
January 2011
Once again, the annual Plymouth Ice Festival was blessed with cold weather and incredible ice sculptures. I’ve been going for over 15 years and each year I’m impressed with the amazing creativity of the artists.
February 2011
Warm weather in late February brought my spring crocuses up, and surprisingly, they bloomed. I’ve seen bulbs pop through the soil in January, but this is the earliest I’ve seen them bloom.
March 2011
While our goal was to watch the lunar eclipse together, hanging out with my neighbor Laurie meant we could catch up on news about home and family.
April 2011
What a great find to see the red trillium in the beech-maple climax forest at Miller Woods in Plymouth, Michigan.
May 2011
Along with 40,000 other people who walked or ran, I celebrated the 20th Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Detroit, Michigan on May 21, 2011. Beautiful day for the race! (more photos from the event on Flickr)
June 2011
What a treat to see the original Emancipation Proclamation; I was grateful to arrive early around 7am for the viewing at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. The museum closed the viewing line when the wait became eight hours.
July 2011
Family vacation on Walloon Lake is something we look forward to every summer. Sailing, horseback riding, swimming, hiking, tennis, and just relaxing – who could ask for more?
August 2011
The first annual Cruisin Hines Drive car show closed down Edward Hines Drive from Nankin Mills to Outer Drive with classic cars, trucks and music from local bands. I couldn’t believe the owner let me get behind the wheel of his classic car.
September 2011
I was lucky to attend TEDxDetroit for the second year, along with 1,500 other people and hear people like Josh Linkner and Bobby Smith talk about their work in Detroit.
October 2011
At the October Social Media Club Detroit event, ATT had a Twitter contest to give away a new Samsung Galaxy S II. Guess who won? Thank you ATT!
November 2011
I was proud to be one of the WordCamp Detroit organizers, we had a great turnout of just over 200 people. Excellent presenters, good conversations and workshops, and I finally met in real life the WordPress users and developers I’ve chatted with online.
December 2011
Our Christmas was a bit different this year, as our family joined hundreds of other Meals on Wheels volunteers delivering meals on Christmas Day.
We traveled throughout Westland and chatted with seniors who were so happy to see us.
One woman was waiting for us by the door and gave my son and me a holiday card and candy cane, saying “Thank you so much for coming by today!”
What a wonderful way to remember the year! I’m inspired. Happy New Year Deborah!
Thanks Rosie, look forward to seeing your year in pictures too!
