2010: A Recap of My Year in Photos

It’s December 31 and time to look back on the year; here’s a recap of some of my favorite activities and events by month.

January 2010

Detroit Twitter folks at the car show

Thanks to @freeismylife, I was one of 18 Detroit Tweeple who was lucky to get a sneak peek (courtesy of @NAIASDetroit) of the North American International Auto Show (#naias) at Cobo Hall. We were all so busy tweeting, we didn’t get a chance to meet everyone in person. I didn’t meet up with @cbaccus and @becksdavis til later in the year.

February 2010

Snow covered vegetables

The big snow that came to southeastern Michigan closed down our local school district (but not the community college where I work) and turned my vegetable plants into interesting popsicles.

March 2010

Giant flag strung across Warren Road

It was a sad day in March for the funeral of Jackson police officer James Bonneau, a 2002 Canton High School graduate. Bonneau was killed in the line of duty earlier in the month during a domestic incident. Canton Fire Department honored Bonneau with a giant flag hung across five lanes of traffic.

April 2010

Tree leaf bud ready to open

Was I surprised when one of the photos for my 365 project was selected Staff Pick of the Day by Momentile.

May 2010

Baltimore oriole perched on a tree branch

Mother’s Day for our family meant traveling to Magee Marsh State Wildlife Area in northwest Ohio to walk the boardwalk and catch the warblers before their trip across Lake Erie. This Baltimore Oriole was a beauty!

June 2010

The four graduates: Brandon, Patrick, Aaron, and Curtis

It was a special day in June when we celebrated the high school graduation of our son. Big milestone for all of us!

July 2010

Fourth of July Fireworks

Glad it was a clear night for fireworks on the Fourth of July.

August 2010

At our college fall in-service, we had great entertainment when local singing group The Chenille Sisters performed on stage. It was pretty amazing when our college president Larry Whitworth joined the singing trio on stage for the last song!

September 2010

Dog with a flower on his head for a hat

Held the weekend after Labor Day, the Plymouth Fall Festival brings out community groups, artists, crafters, games, and music to downtown Plymouth, Michigan. One of our favorite events is the pet show. We’ve seen dogs in tutus, dressed up as firefighters, and in hilarious sweaters.

October 2010

Fillmore Theater billboard announcing 140 Conference

It was a beautiful day for the Detroit 140 Characters Conference at The Fillmore on October 20, and the venue was packed!

I had an amazing time, met lots of Detroit Tweeple in person, and had the opportunity to chat and walk with Chris Brogan after lunch.

November 2010

Lettuce growing amongst the fall leaves

While it may not be special in your part of the world, having lettuce growing in your southeastern Michigan garden the third week of November is not usual.

December 2010

mandarin orange birthday cake for Christmas Eve

Not sure what tradition is at your house, but on Christmas Eve, our tradition is to have a homemade birthday cake for baby Jesus. This year I took my son’s suggestion and made a mandarin orange upside down cake. Delicious!
