Want to join me in a 5K walk or run this week?
Last Friday, Automattic (the people behind WordPress.com) invited the WordPress community, heck anyone on the Internet, to join them in the Worldwide WordPress 5K (WWWP5K).
It’s your opportunity to walk or run five kilometers any time between Monday, October 26, 2015 and Sunday, November 1, 2015.
To add to the sense of community, you’re invited to post your:
- Preparation
- Route
- Pictures
- Thoughts
about the 5K experience on your blog with the tag wwwp5k.
Include a picture of what you see at the end of your 5K, location, and if you want, a picture of yourself. People can learn about your experience, and you can read about theirs.
Get Moving
A 5K walk or run is equivalent to 3.1 miles, about 5000-6000 steps, or almost an hour of walking quickly.
And the rules aren’t limited to walking or running. You can:
- Swim
- Bike
- Run on a treadmill
- Or even skip through your neighborhood
to complete the 5K.
Since the weather in southeastern Michigan is beautiful today—sunny skies and temperatures near 60 degrees—I’m planning to complete my 5K today.
Who’s with me? Want to join me in the Worldwide WordPress 5K?
I Made It!
My 5K walk in my neighborhood yesterday went by quickly!
With southeast Michigan in the middle of a warm spell , I was able to experience the beauty of fall with scarlet red, golden yellow, and rusty brown leaves on the ground and in the trees.
See that blue heart in the sidewalk?
A former homeowner in our neighborhood added to her sidewalk to honor her son who served (and unfortunately died) in the armed forces.
This week may be the last of the gorgeous fall color for our area. Rain clouds move in tonight and strong winds will likely bring down many of the leaves.
Hope to hear from you about your WWP5K experience!
Well this is great timing. I’ll be running mine on Halloween. 🙂
My church will be putting on a free 5k run, at 9am on Saturday, October 31. So anyone who wants to attend is invited: 37425 Woodward Ave, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304
Yay, Seth! I finished mine yesterday, and updated the post with photos. Sounds your church knew exactly when to plan their 5K run. Will anyone in your family be joining you for the 5K?
My wife probably will. We have sick kids right now, so we’re hoping they will be better by then. Halloween is never a fun time to be sick as a kid.
Oh no, Seth! I’m sorry to hear the kids are sick. I hope they recover before Halloween. Colds or ear infections?
They got croup last week. My wife sadly had to miss the WCA2 speaker dinner on Friday because of it.
They’re on the recovery though, so we’re hoping all is well by Saturday.
Yikes! Glad to hear they’re on their way to recovery. Viral croup?
Not sure. They both got it, but it happened with the change in weather and the barking cough only lasted a single night. Now they just have colds, but we’ve quarantined them from other kids to play it safe. 🙂
Fingers crossed they feel better for Halloween. Once they get healthy again, I’m sure everyone will be glad to get a good night’s sleep.
