I realize the title is not the proverb as you know it.
But it’s how a student chose to complete the phrase “You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New” when Dr. Mary Bigler, a 45-year veteran teacher and Eastern Michigan University professor asked second grade students to complete some well-known proverbs.
At the parenting workshop I attended yesterday, the room filled with laughter each time Dr. Bigeler shared her stories from the classroom.
Here are some of the gems she shared:
- Don’t bite the hand that holds a bug
- While the cat’s away, no poop
- People who live in glass houses shouldn’t walk around naked
Remember when your second grade teacher asked what you liked to read?
You might have replied with answers that you liked to read about cats, monsters, or dinosaurs.
One of Dr. Bigler’s students answered, “I like to read a half a page.”
Precious.
