Last week I was thrilled to finally see my first Red-headed Woodpecker ever. A life bird for me! This week, I was even more excited when I managed to see both the Red-headed Woodpecker and the Red-bellied Woodpecker in the same tree. Photo shot at Pearson Metropark, east of Toledo, Ohio. Such beautiful birds!

Red-bellied Woodpecker takes a break from tapping on the snow-covered tree trunk

What a delightful surprise to see the bright red of the Red-bellied Woodpecker against the snow-covered trunk of the Bradford pear on my morning walk last week. We’ve had a week of overcast gray skies in southeast Michigan; it was wonderful to see the sunshine again.
