Excited to see my Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) is blooming this week!
I planted them in February 2025, as part of the Wild Ones Wayne County winter sowing project. Seeds were planted in milk jugs and placed outdoors for cold stratfication.

Brrr! It was four degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill when I woke up two days ago in southeast Michigan. The ground was frozen, even if there wasn’t a lot of snow.
Hard to think it’s time for gardening, but it is! For winter sowing gardening, that is.

When I started my winter sowing project in mid-February this year, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had never done any winter sowing before.
I had a few scares with deep cold spells in late winter and spring, concerned whether the native plant seedlings in the milk jugs would make it through.
And a couple times I did move the milk jugs into the garage overnight.
As you can see from my photo of the purple coneflowers, I shouldn’t have been worried!
