While ooohing and aahing over the gorgeous ice sculptures created by ice carvers and local culinary arts college students, like this stunning dog ice sculpture, is my typical way of enjoying the Plymouth Ice Festival, this year the festival had an added feature: interactive games at the children’s ice playground.

With wind chills bringing temperatures to the -10 to -20 degrees (Farenheit) range, it had to be one of the coldest years for the Plymouth Ice Festival this weekend in Plymouth, Michigan.

Held the first weekend of January, the Plymouth Ice Festival brings thousands of people to downtown Plymouth to see the beautiful ice sculptures. One of my favorite parts of the festival is the ice sculpture competition held between culinary arts student teams from local community colleges. Brrr! It’s a really cold weekend for the Plymouth Ice Festival this year. But the cold weather means the sculptures won’t melt like they did last year when the temperatures were above freezing. I captured ice sculpture photos early in the morning before the crowds moved in. Isn’t the official Ice Festival throne impressive?
