Photo of the Week: Riverside Park Mural

Brightly colored blue and green mural on the side of a building with almost a dozen animals swimming in all directions under the water. With a view of the Ambassador Bridge spanning the international waters of the Detroit River in the background, you might overlook the brightly colored mural on the narrow one-story building in Riverside Park.

Created by artist Jake Dwyer, the mural is at the entrance of the far east parking lot. It depicts almost a dozen indigenous animals swimming in the blue-green waters of the river.

On the side of Iraqi Bakery in Detroit’s Cody Rouge neighbohood on the far west side, you’ll found a brightly colored wall mural that captures your attention as you head east on West Warren.

Photo of the Week: New Mural at Heritage Park

Bright blue lupines, purple coneflowers, and white-stemmed brown mushrooms stand out on a brown brick wall with a printed quote from James McInerney poetry in the middle of the mural.

When I was birding at Canton Township’s Heritage Park earlier this month, I noticed something different on the brick restroom building near the playscape on the north side of the park.

Brightly colored wildflowers and mushrooms stood out in a mural painted on the side of the building.

It’s the first time I’ve seen a mural painted on any public buildings in Canton Township, which had me excited and wondering more about the background of the mural.
