With layoffs at the US Fish and Wildlife Service this month, I wanted to make sure I visited our local national refuge at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge in the downriver Detroit suburbs.

It’s the only international wildlife refuge in North America.

Photo of the Week: Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center

Interactive displays of recycling and Michigan map highlighting plant and animal environmental impacts.

Finally after two years, the John D. Dingell Jr. Visitor Center at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge in Trenton, Michigan officially opened to the public this past week.

Due to the COVID pandemic, the outside areas at the refuge were opened to the public in late 2020, but the visitor center had been closed.
