What fun!
NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) created an online interactive site where you can spell your name in Landsat images.
If you’re not familiar, Landsat is a series of Earth-observing satellites jointly managed by NASA and the United States Geological Survey.
From the Landsat website:
The Landsat series of satellites has been observing Earth for over 50 years, collecting breathtaking imagery and invaluable data used to study our planet’s changing surface.
Enter your name on their interactive site, and Landsat will create a series of images with imagery that depicts each letter of your name.
It’s free and fun.
Once your name has been spelled out, you can download the image for yourself or to share.
For my name, the letter images are from these locations:
- D: Lake Tandou, Australia
- E: Firn-filled Fjords, Tibet
- B: Holla Bend, Arkansas
- O: Crater Lake, Oregon
- R: Islamorada, Florida
- A: Lake Guakhmaz, Azerbaijan
- H: Southwestern Kyrgyzstan
I discovered that if I entered my name another time, different images would display.
Give it a try and find out what Landsat displays for your name.
