Solar Eclipse in Southeast Michigan: August 2017

Today’s solar eclipse in the United States, as seen through the shadows of the tree leaves.

While watching TV to see the eclipse totality in Madras, Oregon and Carbondale, Illinois was amazing (it was incredible to see how dark it became), there’s nothing like experiencing the eclipse on your own!

Our area in southeast Michigan wasn’t in totality; the moon covered about 80 percent of the sun.

Peak of the eclipse was 2:26pm Eastern Daylight Time in our area. But clouds moved in (boo!) this afternoon, making it more challenging to see the eclipse.

If you look carefully in my photo, you’ll see crescents in the leaf shadows.
