Remove Obtrusive Ads in the WordPress Admin Dashboard with Clarity – Ad Blocker Plugin

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

What am I talking about?

The increasing number of WordPress plugins choosing to litter the WordPress admin dashboard with promotional ads for their premium features or pro plugin version.

Those promotional ads are annoying.

And get in the way of me managing sites.

When you have two, three, or four notification messages at the top of the WordPress admin dashboard, it’s more than frustrating.

It makes me think poorly of the plugin and has me considering other plugins which offer similar features.

Probably not what the plugin author intended.

Which is why I was glad to learn about a plugin that could remove those distracting promotional messages.

Clarity – Ad Blocker Plugin

WordPress repository page for Clarity Ad Blocker plugin with short description and version information.

A free plugin, Clarity – Ad Blocker has one goal: to remove obtrusive ads from the WordPress admin dashboard.

The Clarity – Ad Blocker plugin offers:

  • No configuration, all you need to do is install and activate the plugin to remove nags and promotional ads
  • Translated into eight languages

Clarity – Ad Blocker has been installed on 500 sites (as of April 18, 2022) and has a 5.0 star rating in the WordPress plugin repository.

It’s a relatively new plugin, but performs a much needed task. I hope more WordPress users learn about it!

What You Need to Know

If you still see banners or notifications after installing Clarity – Ad Blocker, you can create an issue to ask for a plugin to be supported.

Clarity – Ad Blocker works similarly to a browser web blocker. According to the plugin’s frequently asked questions section, plugins have to be added manually.

If you’re a plugin author who wants to make sure your plugin isn’t filtered, you have three options:

  1. Display notifications only on your plugin’s options page
  2. Display notifications only for Administrator role users
  3. Provide unique CSS classes to identify different types of notifications you use

Summary

You can avoid promotional ads and nags in your WordPress admin dashboard with the Clarity – Ad Blocker plugin.

With no configuration, install and activate the plugin to get rid of those annoying distractions.
