Whether your candidate won in today’s election or not, I think there’s one thing we can all agree on: we’re glad the election season is over.
And if you’re like me, you’d enjoy some down time with friends and colleagues, perhaps enjoying popcorn at a movie?
Well, our Refresh Detroit meetup group has you covered.
Next Wednesday, November 16, 2016, we’re hosting a screening of the documentary film, What Comes Next Is The Future.
And we’ll bring the popcorn!
Created by Bearded founder Matt Griffin, the film is about Tim Berners-Lee’s creation—how it came to be, where it’s been, and where it’s going—as told by the people who build it.
In the film, Griffin knits together a narrative by mining dozens of conversations with important figures from throughout the web’s history including:
- Jeffrey Zeldman
- Denise Jacobs
- Tim Berners-Lee
- Ethan Marcotte
- Chris Wilson
- Lyza Danger Gardner
- Eric Meyer
- Christopher Schmitt
- Irene Au
- Alex Russell
- Trent Walton
- Val Head
- Jonathan Snook and many more
Personally, I can’t wait to see it! Many people in the movie are people in our industry I’ve met, chatted with, had lunch with at conferences, or worked with to plan events.

Meetup Information and Registration
Our meetup is Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Pre-registration ($5.00 cost) is required.
We’re meeting on the third floor of Grand Circus in downtown Detroit (map and directions).
Parking
Parking is available at the Detroit Opera House parking garage on Broadway for $8 (unless there’s a special event). The Detroit Opera House parking garage is a short walk up Broadway and around the corner from the Grand Circus space.
Street parking is also available on Washington Boulevard (one block west of Grand Circus, a short three-minute walk, depending on where you park).
Note: before 6:00pm, you are limited to two hours of parking on Washington Boulevard; after 6:00pm you can park for four hours.
You’ll also find parking in several nearby parking structures and parking lots.
Another note: many downtown lots and structures only take cash.
Special thanks to Grand Circus for graciously hosting our event. We appreciate their support of Refresh Detroit and our events.
See You November 16!
It’s a different type of meetup for our group, a more casual meetup where we can sit back, enjoy a movie about our industry.
I hope you’ll join us!
