A shiny metallic sculpture of a turkey marks the entrance walkway past the rain garden, a different type of bird for those of us gathered for an early morning bird hike.
Created by local artist Laura Steiner, the sculpture was installed at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC) in mid-August 2025.
First time I’ve seen outside art installations at the EIC and I’m looking forward to seeing more!
The turkey sculpture is made of spoons, rebar, and nails. Its head is bent over as it forages near a hollow log made from metal files.
I searched online for a website or art exhibit by Laura Steiner, but couldn’t find anything.
If you know about the sculptor, or their website, let me know in the comments. I’d love to share more info about their work and link to their website.
